Should driver's of ATVs be required to have a valid drivers' license? According to statistics, 44% of ATV deaths are children under the age of 16; 20% percent of these deaths are children under the age of 12.

A study by Pediatric Orthopedics/Prosthetics and Prosthetics found that children under the age of 12 lack the size, strength, and motor skills to operate any size ATV.

Thirteen states currently require an operator of an ATV to have a valid drivers' license. Twenty-seven states have minimum age laws that required the driver to be a certain age before they can legally operate an ATV.

Between 1993 and 2004 accidents by children under 16 increased by 94%

The injury rate for ATV use has increased by 159% in the last 5 years.

Only 4% of ATV operators receive any type of training.

A driver of an ATV is 83% more likely to be involved in an accident than the driver of a motor vehicle.

The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons recommend that:

*all ATV operators be licensed and have a hands-on training course
*all operators should be at least 16 years of age
*ATV should only be used during daylight hours

ATVs can be fun. Studies show that by following a few simple rules the rate of injuries and deaths from ATV use can be reduced.

We feel that ATV drivers should be required to have a valid drivers' license. This would help reduce the amount of accidents suffered by underage drivers.

This is a tough one to answer. I feel there are always people that acts a fool so to them having a license means nothing. They have disregard for everything. Those are the ones that teach their kids the same values. Those are the ones unfortunatly that ruin things for all of us. In a nutshell, I feel having to be licensed still wouldnt stop "most" people from riding an atv.

It will not matter if you have a license or not, there are some people out there that are dare devils and a license will not change that, when you are out in a holler, you travel through so many different types of areas, and if they did required a license, how are people going to get caught, when there way back in the country
